Introducing our first eco-conscious music video for local artist Katels! When Kate came to us with this concept for the title track of her new album “Calliope,” we knew it was the perfect fit for our ethos. She was 100% on board with our natural materials and methods, plus we were able to repurpose assets from our short film, The Farmer’s Daughter.

The video centers on a tightrope walker in the circus who pushes past her limits only to find that sometimes allowing yourself to fall can take you to even greater heights. This metaphor for the artists journey and what it’s like to really allow yourself to explore and play within your creativity was a message that resonated with our whole team.

The main set was a 4’x8′ circus tent made of organic cotton canvas. We sewed the red and white stripes together for a classic circus vibe. The puppet was made similarly to our short film puppets, reusing assets from the Daughter character. The calliope hummingbird was created from scratch using balsa wood, pine pitch glue, regenerative wool batting, linen, and silk.

Guest animator Max Winston came out from Los Angeles for a few weeks to bring the tightrope walker and calliope hummingbird to life. It’s always so fun to bring in industry professionals to lend their talent and expertise to our mission!
